Hello and welcome to Long Island Soaring Association (LISA). We are a soaring club based at Brookhaven Calabro Airport in Long Island.
We get together every weekend to fly our sailplanes, and to teach and learn about the sport of soaring. We also offer Power Pilot training in our Cessna C-172 at a very reasonable rate. The club, an SSA chapter, is a non-profit incorporated in 1955 by soaring enthusiasts. Our aim is to promote the sport of soaring and make it affordable to all. We also strive to promote the science of airmanship, air navigation, meteorology, and related subjects.
Glider operations are scheduled every weekend and some weekdays, weather permitting. Click on a day above to make a reservation; if it is not clickable, we are having ops that day. If ops are cancelled for any reason, you will be notified by SMS.
We offer an Introductory Flight for those who want to experience soaring and see if the sport is for them.
Prospective members must attend two LISA monthly meetings and complete three prepaid flights. A Membership Application should be filled out prior to the second meeting.
LISA has members who are FAA Certified Flight Instructors and volunteer their time teaching our members to fly. You don't have to have any prior flying experience to join. We're a club and not a commercial operation, so we operate on a first come, first serve basis. We enjoy introducing prospective members to the joys of flying, but cannot take reservations for a particular time. You may choose morning or afternoon, or both, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
